About fizzyblue
fizzyblue is a Linux image created by me based on Fedora Silverblue, focused on gaming and software development. It was created so that I could have a polished vanilla GNOME experience across all my devices. fizzyblue is developed as a container image through the use of bootc. The name fizzyblue is a portmandeau of my username and “Silverblue”.
Features
- Near-vanilla GNOME experience; minor changes to the default appearance, shortcuts and a few default app substitutions.
- Firefox (as a flatpak) instead of GNOME Web
- Bazaar instead of GNOME Software
- Resources instead of GNOME System Monitor
- Built on the latest release of Fedora.
- Flatpaks are provided through Flathub. Fedora Flatpaks are specifically not included out of the box, due to their poor usability.
- Homebrew pre-installed and automatically updating.
- Visual Studio Code pre-installed. fish and starship included for a better CLI.
- Docker and Podman are both available in the image.
- Steam and Lutris preinstalled for easy access to games, without dealing with Flatpak limitations.
- Additional gaming tools included, such as gamescope, MangoHUD, ProtonPlus and more.
- Fix for the legacy rechunker used by uBlue images for seamless rebasing.
Scope
fizzyblue is designed for my personal use, and isn’t intended to be used by a wide audience. But if the changes I’ve made to it are compelling to you, you’re welcome to install it for yourself. For newer Linux users, I would recommend Bazzite or Bluefin as they have much larger maintainence teams and communities behind them. For advanced users, I would recommend building your own image, either with Universal Blue’s Image Template, or with BlueBuild.
